Debenhams reveal hottest summer looks at 2014 show
FRESH florals, ‘dip-dye’ dresses and eye-catching swimwear marked the start of summer at Debenhams’ SS14 Press Show.
Scotland’s fashion fraternities gathered in Glasgow’s plush Blythswood Hotel last Wednesday to catch a glimpse of the department store’s newest collections.
Following the success of their Autumn / Winter 2013 show, the venue was packed with the country’s fashion and beauty magpies, all keen to unravel the latest Summer looks.
With a glamorous reception featuring rails of exclusive fashion pieces and beauty products, guests were buzzing with excitement before the show had even started.
And when models finally sashayed down the catwalks in swarms of tropical colour, animal print and sequined occasion wear, it was clear to see that the future was definitely bright for Debenhams.
From a sea of orange hues to subtle pastels, the womenswear items launched by their best-known designers were made perfect for beachwear fashion.
Zesty hues were also at the forefront of collections, with a stunning lemon jacket by Matthew Williamson winning over gasps of approval from the crowds.
Making yet another comeback, animal prints were hot on the fashion radar during the unveiling of trends, with giraffe and leopard prints taking centre stage.
Butterfly prints also made an appearance in the Spring / Summer Betty Jackson range, with pretty, matching separates adding a dose of girly glamour to simple silhouettes.
Classic tailoring was made edgy when culottes made a comeback and were teamed with broderie anglaise and ombre effect silk fabrics.
But one look that was glistening above the rest during the show was embellishment, with as bling-tastic clutch bags and shoes making a sparkling entrance for Summer accessories.
From printed maxi dresses to serenely feminine occasion wear, long and flowing was the choice for hemlines when it came to daytime and evening dresses.
Designers such as Debut and Jenny Packham made future dressing for weddings or the races easy, with an array of stunning gowns suited for every age category.
Jumpsuits were equally high on the trend agenda for SS14 and were adorned with abstract prints and bold colour.
One of the greatest things taken from the show was the fact that, when it comes to silhouttes this summer, anything goes so long as it’s bright and breezy.
Check out some of their latest collections which will be sure to launch you straight into summer. You’ll forget winter was ever here.
