Gowns grab attention at Debenhams Press Show
IT was the remarkable gowns which stole the spotlight at the Debenhams Press Show last week.
Held once again in the plush Blythswood Hotel, fashion lovers turned out in their droves to lap up the AW14 collections.
Floor length, embellished dresses and shimmering metallic numbers took centre stage at the event, which organisers this year decided to hold without the traditional catwalk.
Instead, the models sauntered around the room as revellers were treated to cocktails and caviar, giving us the chance to see the outfits up close and personal.
On arrival, the department store unveiled rails of their exciting new collections, containing a riot of colour including metallics, purples and forest greens.
Vivid fuscia-hued items were also scattered through the rails, adding warmth to the neutral autumn staples.
When it comes to dressing for this year’s Christmas doos, Debenhams won’t disappoint with its evening wear.
If you’re looking for Hollywood glamour, look to Debut, Jenny Packham and Julien Macdonald for dresses that will make you feel like a celeb.
I fell in love with this stunning teal gown, pictured below, by Debut, which has a beautiful Bollywood feel.
Sometimes embellishment can look cheap but the items from this year’s show oozed luxury.
Accessories were also resplendent, with clutch bags, shoes and necklaces all adorned with gems.
But aside from evening styles, the outerwear collections also surpassed expectations.
From coral to lime green and camel, the coats had a 60s vibe and were full of touch-feely fabrics.
One shaggy lime coat has already been earmarked for this year’s wardrobe, and will add an edge to any outfit.
If the press show taught us anything this year, it was aim for high impact with bright colours and full on fabrics.
Knitted items were also a big deal, with the humble jumper being updated with more embellishment and unique patterned details.
As for the beauty section, a flurry of beauty brands, both old and new, also made an appearance.
Armani and bareMinerals were back once again, while burgeoning skincare brand Murad came along to unveil
their latest products.
The Christmas gifts were something I was instantly intrigued with, with the likes of Benefit and Elemis releasing
their own ‘calendars,’ containing a different beauty product for each day rather than chocolates. Hats off to
Debenhams for another fantastic event which has made my teeth itch with the need to shop.
Now I’m counting down the minutes until payday to get my hands on that fabulous lime green coat.
