Glitz and glamour at the Debenhams A/W ’15 Show
WITH Paris Fashion Week just around the corner and the New York runway shows already under way, I have become somewhat unrelenting in the search for new trends.
As a self-professed shopaholic who loves clothing — without the bank balance to live up to my passion — it’s little wonder autumn is my favourite time of the year.
So, as if on cue, Glasgow presented a slightly more demure (and affordable) version of the prestigious Fashion Week — The Debenhams A/W 2015 Fashion and Beauty Press Show.
For Scots fashion journos and bloggers, it’s one of the most glamorous events on the social calendar and provides the perfect excuse to nip off from the office early.
Held in the plush Blythswood Square Hotel, this year’s event allowed guests to roam freely through the new fashion and cosmetics collections all throughout the day.
Clutching a glass of fizz, I was in my element as I noticed some of my favourite fabrics; leather, lace and sequins, cropping up frequently throughout the rails.
In the main area, mannequins were styled to perfection; with cosy rollneck jumpers, winter florals and a smattering of fur setting a trend for minimalistic vibes.
When it came to the colour palette, it was 50 shades of grey teamed with neutrals and black and white, or metallics if you wanted something a bit more glam.
One the accessories front it was all about resplendent heels and fringe boots, as well as a range of scarves and wraps from the new Nine by Savannah Miller collection.
London Fashion Week designer, Giles Deacon, also joined the ranks of designers at Debenhams with a 26-piece collection for Autumn Winter 15 under the brands’ /Edition range.
And bloggers got a sneak preview of one of his key pieces, a grey, bow detail trapeze skirt, which ended up a popular fixture at the event.
Apart from that his range consisted of elegant, superbly cut coats and feminine patterned blouses which have a bohemian, 70s touch and are perfect for the cold snap.
Yet to be released, the range, which will go into five Debenhams flagship stores as well as online, is set to be modelled by fashion ‘It’ Girl, Daisy Lowe for AW15.
Signature investment pieces include the fit and flare coat at £150, the bow print maxi dress at £110, the horse print trapeze dress at £60 and the tux jacket and trouser at £99 and £50.
If there was a dominant theme for this year’s A/W Debenhams Press Show it’s got to be chic tailoring with a hint of boho.
Evening wear looks consist of metallics, sequins and maxi gowns as well as flattering lace numbers which will be perfect for cocktail hour.
Meanwhile, in the beauty section, Urban Decay were all about lustrous, smokey eyes and vampy purple lips as they launched their new, Urban Spectrum Eyeshadow Palette.
I also had a gut-wrenching skin assessment from dermatology experts at Murad, who used a high-tech skin analysis machine to looks beneath the surface of your skin to measure five key skin health markers: fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, redness, inflammation and skin pores.
The camera delves deep under the skin to show you what your problem areas are and how you could look (gulp) in five years’ time if you don’t cater for your skin properly.
I was pleasantly surprised at the results and thought it was a great way for the skincare brand to showcase their expertise and show just how important it is to cleanse, tone and moisturise.
On that note, I casted my ‘skin-dehydrating’ glass of prosecco aside and left the event feeling ready as ever to revamp my autumn / winter wardrobe.
Once again, Debenhams proves that they can appeal to a wide range of consumers no matter what their age, shape or size.
