The Power of Retinol: Four of the best
RETINOL has long been the buzzword when it comes to anti-ageing skin ingredients.
The substance, a form of retinoid which is essentially pure vitamin A, helps to increase skin cell turn-over and collagen production.
Worshipped by beauty editors and dermatologists, it’s become the number one ingredient when it comes to fighting lines and wrinkles.
This week we’ve picked up on some of the best Retinol products on the market.
Murad Retinol Youth Renewal Serum, £65
THIS cult serum powered by Dr. Murad’s exclusive Retinol Tri-Active Technology will smooth out wrinkles in a flash.
Apply all over the skin, avoiding the undereyes, to firm and flatten out fine lines and wrinkles before moisturising day and night.
The potent yet gentle formula delivers quick results without irritation or downtime, visibly minimising lines and wrinkles within days of usage.
You can feel this getting to work and rejuvinating almost as soon as you apply it – and the tingling sensation feels strangely satisfying.
I apply a thin layer of this before bed underneath rosehip oils and moisturisers and have noticed the fine lines around my mouth and on my forehead rapidly disappearing.
This powerful product helps speed up cell renewal so it’s great for those with acne scarring or blemishes.
Skin looks radiant, evenly-toned and plumper over time.
The Ordinary Advanced Retinol 2 per cent, £5.50
A TINY bottle of joy, this potent serum can help strip years off your skin.
Costing a mere £5.50, this can be used 3-4 times a week in combination with some of The Ordinary’s other cult serums.
For best results, use three drops of this after The Ordinary’s Niacinamide and Buffet for tighter, more refined skin.
Expect a slight amount of flaking and peeling to the skin once you start using as it removes dead layers from your face.
Most retinol products on the market are 1 per cent so be careful when using such a high dosage.
Make sure you use an SPF30 or 50 the day after using this because this increases skin sensitivity and could increase the chances of sun damage.
Retinol Youth Renewal Eye Serum, £65
PEEPERS are always the first to show signs of ageing so it’s important to introduce a powerful eye cream.
This potent formula dramatically improves the signs of ageing around the eyes, firming the skin, brightening dark circles and
improving the appearance of crows’ feet.
Be warned though – avoid using this every night as it could actually make the lines around your eyes look a bit more crepey to start with.
I’d stick to using this three times a week for the best results.
This is super strength and tingles but I definitely saw drastic reduction in lines after about a week.
La Roche-Posay Redermic R Anti-wrinkle Day Cream, £22
A PHARMACY stop-off in Cannes led me to this amazing French skincare product.
Enriched with with 0.3% retinol, this gentle formula helps to tackle irritating dark spots and pigmentation.
Apply daily after your SPF to see a reduction in crows feet, dark spots, forehead and smokers’ lines.
La Roche-Posay’s minimalist formulas are also great for sensitive skins as they contain no preservatives, fragrance, colourants, or parabens.
