Fifty shades of yellow – why the fashion world is going sunny side up this season

SAY farewell to winter blues — this season is all about going sunny side up.
Shades of lemon are all the rage and are a sure fire way to inject some zest into an outfit.
Predicted as the hottest hue for Spring 2014, sunshine yellow provides the perfect shortcut to a wardrobe update.
Although it may seem daunting, almost anyone can try out this look, by simply adding a splash of citrus colour to an outfit.
Whether it’s brightening up monochrome with a sorbet handbag or throwing on a custard-coloured blazer, this trend isn’t only limited to the daring.
The great thing about yellow is that it’s the perfect shade to tackle that tricky transition from Autumn to Spring.
Filtering through from the catwalk to the high street is a slew of pastel lemon coats and A-line dresses which can be mixed with brights, neutrals and pastels galore.
A great way to dip into this trend is by mixing zesty yellow with indigo blue or clashing purple for a bold, statement look.
This chic sweater combination and blue print skirt from Next is ideal for introducing some colour to the office. As far as this shade concerns, any colour goes.

For the brave amongst you, why not experiment by sporting some yellow tailoring or a vibrant shift dress.
Even the suit gets a citrus makeover this season, adding a cheery, modern twist to the simple two-piece.
Make a chic style statement by pairing tailored lemon trousers with a crisp white shirt or sports luxe tee.
You can also team some yellow accessories with monochrome, serving a super-bright antidote to black and white styling.
And for those who really want to stand out from the crowd, pair with bright red heels for an easy daytime to evening transition.
When going the whole haul with this stand-out shade, keep accessories simple and team with a bold pink or red lip, a la Cheryl Cole in her pretty buttercup dress at the Brit Awards.

On another note, the runways were abundant with ice cream shades including sweet sorbet this season. For inspiration, look no further than the energetic John Galliano collection, which championed yellow in all its guises.
Don’t be afraid to mix up some sugary confection by teaming shades of lemon, mint and pastel pink together.
But if you don’t feel like going all out, go for a printed blouse or top smattered with a hint of the hue for an easy way to add some punch to neutrals.
Throw a high-beam blazer jacket or necklace over navy or white for a stark contrast — darker shades are the perfect canvas for this zingy shade.
Black simply won’t cut the mustard this season, so check out these eye-wateringly bright items which are sure to dominate your wardrobe this season.
