With A/W 2023 now in full force, the allure of a fresh hairstyle change for the new season had become impossible to resist.

Whether it’s Fiery Pumpkin, Autumn Sunset or Cinnamon Red, shades of red have become the A-list go-to, with the likes of Megan Fox, Emily Ratajkowski and Hailey Bieber leading the charge.

Warmth is the buzzword for hair this A/W season, as copper, strawberry and candy tones infuse brunette and blonde locks.

I recently had the pleasure of trying out the trending look firsthand at the established Roar Hair & Beauty Muirend, in Glasgow’s vibrant south side, a branch of three salons.

Guided by the talented Salon Director, Brian Leo McCallum, my journey into the world of autumn reds was nothing short of extraordinary.

With the leaves outside turning brilliant shades of orange and red, it was the perfect time to join the seasonal transition. Brian and his team were already filling the salon with a kaleidoscope of fiery hues, each one more alluring than the last.

Opting for the Cinnamon Red look, I was eager to add a touch of flair to my brunette locks. This vibrant twist on the copper trend promised to be fierce and fun, making it the ideal choice for someone like me, not quite ready to dive headfirst into a complete transformation.

Brian said: “The red cinnamon shade is beautiful as it’s taking your brunette hair and infusing it with lots of warmth and vibrance.

“For this look we used a herringbone highlighting technique all the way to the top so we can add in some lighter pieces to the hair in order to create more depth and dimension.

“Instagrammers and Tiktokers have been really driving this hair trend and luckily, there’s a copper or a red for everybody.

“It’s all about choosing the correct tone and it can be done in a subtle way, that’s still warm and fiery. It can also be a great colour to make the eyes and skintone pop.”

The technique used by Brian, an educator for hair colour brand Goldwell, is similar to balayage but blends the hues more harmoniously together.

Before and after

Brian used a selection of pigments from Goldwell to create a head turning hue which which turned out eye-catching without it being garish.

Monochromatic hair is no longer in vogue; it has been supplanted by highlights, lowlights, and colour gradients.

Additionally, the understated luxury aesthetic, which has garnered significant popularity in the fashion realm, has now influenced hair trends, with vixen-red hues helping to light up colour palettes.

The great thing about this transformation was that only a very low level of bleach was used, meaning less damage to the hair. Brian combined this with a bond building product to create stronger tresses too.

Shades of require high quality haircare products to maintain the hue for as long as possible. To do this, Brian recommends visiting the salon for a treatment around every 10 weeks depending on how often you wash your hair.

He added: “Turning the water temperature down when washing your hair will help prevent stripping the colour and keeping that fiery shade.

“A colour saving shampoo is also an essential to keep your colour vibrant for as long as possible.”

The results

The longevity of this colour has been was impressive, proving that, with a little care, my fiery look would continue to burn bright.

Roar’s dedication to personalised experiences was evident from start to finish. The consultation was thorough, taking into account my preferences, lifestyle, and skin tone to ensure the perfect match.

Following the service, I was equipped with a selection of at-home care products, including colour saving shampoos and treatments, to keep my cinnamon red looking its absolute best.

Walking out of Roar Hair and Beauty, I felt like a new person. The vibrant Cinnamon Red had breathed new life into my appearance, and I couldn’t have been happier with the results. Brian and his team are true artists, and their expertise is evident in every strand of hair.

If you’re considering a change this season, I wholeheartedly recommend giving the Cinnamon Red trend a try.
